KEY RESPONSIBILITY:
To provide counseling support to children and their families who have experienced trauma, including sexual abuse.
DUTIES INCLUDE
•Assessment of the psychosocial needs of children and their caregivers;
•Outreach Activities and Community Engagement;
•Pre and Post-test HIV and AIDS Counseling;
•Referrals and follow-ups on other services needed by the child;
•Establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with other partners in the Child Protection field;
•Evaluation of interventions and programmes;
•Writing high-quality professional reports as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
•An enthusiasm for work in this field;
•A belief in the capacity of children and adults to heal and develop; 3. Knowledge of and skills in providing counseling
Appropriate for work with children who have experienced trauma, abuse and with children whose behavior is abusive/
Sexually inappropriate; An ability to communicate with children and adults;
•A good working knowledge of HIV, AIDS and TB pre- and post-test counseling;
•An ability to write good reports in English;
•Working knowledge of Law and Policy as it applies to children, child protection and families;
•An ability to work and effectively communicate with different sectors and disciplines.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Qualified Social Auxiliary Worker registered with the SACSSP for a minimum of 2 years;
•A minimum of 2 years’ experience in Child Protection;
•Computer skills, particularly in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, e-mail, internet and electronic communication;
•A valid driver’s license is an added advantage;
•The ability to communicate and write in English and Xhosa.
